Correct preparation of paint repair
Paint repair normally requires a treatment with antirust primer. However, for this, the paint to be treated must be well prepared. If coated with a factory primer, old paints and polyester substrates that are completely hardened and are non-bleeding or thermoplastic, the substrate must be ground and cleaned. In contrast to this, aluminium and galvanised sheet metal must be cleaned, finely ground and then finally cleaned and dried before an antirust primer can be applied. Sheet metal must be dry and clean and above all free of rust, separating agents and fat. Bare sheet metal should be cleaned, degreased and ground. Only after such a professional preparation, a treatment using an antirust product makes sense and a primer can effectively protect steel, light metals and other substrates against corrosion.
Tips on how to use our Caramba antirust primer
First, shake the spray can with our antirust primer well. When the mixing balls start clashing you should continue to shake for another two minutes. After that, you can spray the primer from a distance of 15 to 20 cm in circular motions in several crosswise motions. Allow it to dry afterwards. Turn over the can and spray the spray head empty after application. Normally, Caramba antirust primer red-brown can be painted over without any intermediate grinding. Any embedded dust particles can be removed with wet emery paper after approximately 30 minutes. This primer can also be washed off using white spirit after half an hour from the application. Although our antirust primer is not sensitive to frost, it should be applied at approximately 20°C.
